AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT GPU Review & Benchmarks: Undervolting, Gaming, Power, Noise o technology 3080

by adminHanoiHalongTour

Our review of the AMD RX 6900 XT GPU is here, with benchmarks for the 6900 XT vs. the RTX 3090, RTX 3080, RX 6800 XT, and more. SAM, Ray Tracing, power, OC, & thermals included. Sponsor: Arctic’s Liquid Freezer II 280 on Amazon ( or the P12 fans on Amazon ( In this review of the AMD RX 6900 XT video card, we’ll be covering frequency behaviors, unique undervolting performance characteristics, power consumption, Smart Access memory performance, ray tracing benchmarks (vs. RTX and DLSS), and normal rasterization testing. We had to cut a few tests to keep the length manageable, and it still ran a little long. We likely won’t be following this one up anytime soon due to how overloaded the review pipeline is right now, but we might do some XOC overclocking streams with it in the future, as things smooth-out more. In the meantime, heading into the Cyberpunk 2077 launch this week, we have this one last round of GPU benchmarks to get through for the year. We now have a fairly full picture of the best GPUs for 2020 — it’s just a matter of getting one. Comparisons primarily consist of benchmarks of the 6900 XT vs. the 6800 XT, RTX 3080 , and RTX 3090. Hammer on table for upcoming tear down. Posts tomorrow!
Small update: surgery all good. I'm able to write scripts, but probably can't film for a few days. You'll see some older content uploaded (and I'll try to get Cyberpunk done). Good news: I now have mesh installed where the damage was, so airflow should be better than before. I asked doctors to benchmark it before and after and generate 47 charts.

I've been told, that RX 6900 XT behaves better under water than RTX 3090. Using EKWB custom loop system and playing VR at 8K ! He said that 6900XT is not running as hot as 3090 and eats way less power to work. Overall experience at 8k VR gaming was much better with 6900 XT. The point was, he was running 5950X and told me that CPU is too weak, lol ? Now he is going to upgrade to 12700k or better and put it all under water. (he was using X570 formula, motherboard VRM and Chipset cooled by water as well.

Got 10791 on Port Royal with Merc 319: 2450-2550hz, 1080mv, MEM 2000, power slider all the way up and custom fan curve.

Worse in rendering, far worse ray tracing, no DLSS, no thanks.

What's more important to pay attention to-Current Temperature or Junction Temperature? My junction usually hovers 33-36°c idle but when gaming in 4k reaches 90-96°c

Is this acceptable?

If I can get this card today for under $1k would you recommend it over a 3080Ti? Buddy is selling one to me for cheap and wondering if Invidia is the better choice. Really only play Rocket League and BF.

It would be great if you could play games without black screens! I put my 3060Ti back in. I tried everything from drivers to settings. I do have a 750 watt EVGA power supply. I have heard that may not be enough. So I put the card in my mining rig. IRACUS had some funky flicker in the ground even turning off some setting suggested. Far Cry was great but would black screen every hour or so. Oh and the fan noise!

AMD is doing the same thing they did to Intel. Ignore the super high end, exclusive overclocking and sticking with standard gamers. 1440p is where i see most gamers sitting while maintaining any stupid fast frame rate at that resolution. I like the 6900XT in that regard.

Would this work well in a build with a Ryzen 7 3700x and only 16gb of ram?

How does this sit nowadays??? I can get 6900 XT TUF for £1500, 3900 TUF is £2600. Purely used for DCS at 4k.

Almost one year later the 6800xt cost more than the 69xt in most places and the 3090 is out of reach lol

for me in the UK the 6900xt is only 100 more than the 6800 yet the 6900xt is much cheaper than a 3080.

If you don’t care about noise levels or fan failure is there any performance issues with running fans at 100% above 60° C?

Forgive me if this is stupid idea, but it would be nice to see how to safely overclock the card using more power tool.

Watching this as just brought a 6900xt a few days. Could of saved a like $160 to go with a 3080 to get ray tracing and dlss. Yep the 3080 and 6900xt are very close in price here in australia. I have no idea if i made the right choice. 6800xt are cheaper.

Sadness for me is that I paid 6900 price for a 6800xt AIB model. It has close to the 6900xt performance and exceeds it with overclock – but hurts to pay a tier above pricing . In this market, I was lucky to get one at all. Very happy with the 6800xt by Asrock. Taichi is a beautiful card.

All these results are price dependent. At the moment, in Australia, some RX6900XT's are cheaper than some RX6800XT's. They are still both too expensive for me – being over $2000aud.

What would you choose if you'd have opportunity to buy 3080 or 6900xt for the same price? Because I can buy one of them for exactly the same price and brand new
