I just pulled one of these out of a computer that was completely clogged inside. The fins were clogged with some fluid breakdown stuff. Now I'm replacing 5 of them at work because of this.

My recommendation to anyone buying this product is to be careful when tightening the screws on the fan. If you tighten them too much the corner pieces that the screws go through will break off. You should be fine though as long as only one the top or bottom pieces break off.
It's not really ready to go. He might need a power supply, RAM and a hard drive or an SSD in his system.
